Thallus erect to subpendulous, to 15 cm long, grey-green to yellowish grey; branching subdichotomous to irregular; trunk pale to black; branches terete; fibrils to 5 mm long on main branches; branchlets and papillae absent. Isidia sparse, solitary, rarely clustered, eroding to punctiform pseudocyphellae; soralia absent. Cortex cracked. Medulla dense, with a yellow to pink layer surrounding axis; axis 3/4 width of branch, hollow. Apothecia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Cortex containing usnic acid. Medulla K–; containing diffractaic acid (major), 2-O-methylobtusatic acid (trace), baeomycesic acid (trace), 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid (trace) and 3-α-hydroxybarbatic acid (trace). | ||
Very rare on Allocasuarina torulosa in eastern Qld; also in Central Africa. | ||
